Heavy Duty Mechanics maintain, service and overhaul large mobile equipment used in construction, mining, forestry and other material handling applications.

What do Heavy Duty Mechanics do on the job?

• Interpret work orders and technical manuals
• Keep equipment cleaned, lubricated and maintained
• Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets manufacturers' specifications and legislated regulations
• Write service reports
• Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required

• Saskatchewan Apprenticeship – Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic
o Completed Grade 12
o Must be working in the trade and under the supervision of a certified journeyperson
o Length: 4 years including 1,800 hours of technical training and on-the-job training
